Orthodontics and Periodontics

The practice of orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that works to fix misaligned teeth and jaws. Teeth that are not properly aligned or crooked are more difficult to keep clean, have a higher risk of decay and periodontal disease, and they put more stress on the muscles that chew, which can cause headaches, TMJ syndrome, and pain in the neck, shoulder, and back. Teeth that are screwy or not inside the perfect locations likewise can chop down one's appearance. Orthodontic treatment is an approach to fixing or moving teeth, to work on the outside of the teeth and how they work. By spreading the pressure of biting across all of your teeth, it can also help your teeth, gums, and jaw joints stay healthy over time.

Dentistry's subspecialty of periodontology (or periodontics) examines the secondary structures of teeth and the diseases and conditions that affect them. The gingiva (gums), alveolar bone, cementum, and periodontal ligament are the supporting tissues that make up the periodontium. Although periodontal diseases can take many different forms, they are typically the result of a combination of host immune-inflammatory mechanisms, bacterial plaque biofilm accumulation, and other risk factors that can lead to the destruction of the supporting bone surrounding natural teeth. In addition, peri-implantitis treatment and the positioning and upkeep of dental implants are part of periodontology. Peri-implantitis and periodontal disease are thought to have very similar causes
